Natural Sleep Remedies
We could go on and on about all the downsides of not getting enough sleep. From crankiness and irritability to high blood pressure and the increased risk of heart disorders; sleep deprivation is a real and serious problem. Luckily, sleep is just like anything else in your life, if you work at it enough you can get it under control. If you’re one of those people who finds themselves battling with sleep every night, try some of these natural remedies to sleep better.
No Netflix and Chill
Did you a know that binge watching Peaky Blinders before you sleep might be causing your insomnia? A study which looked at 423 young adults found that those who binge-watched television episodes before going to bed were 98% more likely to have lower sleep quality. 98%?! That’s almost a 100% chance that by binge-watching your favourite show, you are giving up the chance of sleeping well.
Milk and Honey
Sipping a mug of warm milk and honey is a natural sleep aid and can help you in getting better sleep. Milk contains the amino acid tryptophan, which you might recognize for being responsible for making all us feel super sleepy after thanksgiving dinner (because it’s in turkey as well), which works as a natural sedative. You also shouldn’t eat or drink alcohol at least two hours before bed to promote better sleep.
Stretch It Out
There are certain yoga poses that can help you relax and allow you to focus on your breathing. These poses will aid in releasing tension and letting go of all your day’s stress, which is one of the biggest reasons most of us stay awake. You can do two or three simple postures such as crossing your legs and bending forward with your arms outstretched or child’s pose right before going to bed. These will naturally calm you and help you get better sleep.
Have A Sleep Routine
Create a mini sleep routine for yourself every night before bed. Steps could include putting on your favourite Dandelion Cotton Pyjamas and curling up with a good book and cup of warm milk. It could also involve lighting some aromatherapy candles and cuddling with your partner before you both retire for the night, just make sure to snuff out those candles before falling asleep!
Whatever you choose to try, be aware that good sleep is integral to your overall wellbeing and isn’t something to be taken for granted. Happy Sleeping!
