Our 2019 Resolutions
First off, we’d like to wish all of you a very happy new year! We hope you brought 2019 in in the most delightful way possible, whether that means taking a trip with your besties, partying till sunrise or cuddling up at home with a good book and your favourite Dandelion cotton pyjamas. However you spent your new year’s all we hope is that you were happy. For 2019, rather than trying to stop drinking coffee or stick to deadlines, we wanted to make some resolutions that will really change our lives, for the better. Here are our resolutions for 2019.
Spend less time in front of screens
It seems almost impossible to do anything without one eye on your smartphone, tablet or computer screen these days. Between working, staying in touch with friends and relaxing; everything we do is connected to a screen! According to a 2016 study, we touch our phones over 2,600 times a day. Can you imagine how much we could be doing with that time instead? This year, vow to get off your phone and get outside, meet someone face to face or just read a book instead.
Ask people about themselves
Have you noticed how strained most social interactions can be sometimes? Especially when everyone is fighting to announce their own story or share their own experiences. We have found that people enjoy talking about themselves to no end, but this is getting worse as we are allowing this behaviour to run rampant. Don’t be part of the problem and help end small talk by asking your friends and acquaintances interesting, genuine questions to learn more about them. We need to stop listening to respond and start hearing what others around us are saying.
Flow with your own energy
The conventional work day, where we’re expected to be up most productive for eight, straight hours between 9-5, goes against human nature. There was a time, before the Industrial Revolution, where humans would sleep for two long periods versus the one period of rest we are conditioned to now. Many of us are night owls, while others are early risers. This is something that we can’t completely control and means that we are most productive at times that are unique to us. This year, find ways to embrace your unique energy flow and schedule all important work for those hours, for when you know you’ll be at your peak.
Speak to yourself like you would a friend
Some of us give great advice but never really take it when it comes to our own problems. This year, stop talking down to yourself and treat yourself like you would a friend. If you’re dealing with a problem, think of what you would tell a friend who was going through the same issues and listen to yourself. Take the great advice that you’ve been giving others while speaking to yourself in a kind and nurturing way. We are often our own worst enemies so if you can’t love yourself, then how can you expect someone else to love you?
Get moving
There is no better advice in the world than to get active. Whether this means working out at the gym for an hour a day or spending 20 minutes every morning taking your dog for a walk, getting your body moving is key. It’s the key to long-term health and happiness, which is all one can really ask for!
