Samyukta Nair has always had a fascination for art, design and travel. This combined with her family’s history and passion for fashion, led Samyukta to develop a luxury sleepwear brand that was designed to make women feel and look better while getting a good night’s rest. Sleep does not get the importance in deserves in our busy times but good-quality sleepwear is almost as important to your beauty sleep as any other night-time routine. Samyukta kept this in mind when she created Dandelion pyjamas offering multiple designs, silhouettes, patterns and customizations. With a fan following that includes Sonam Kapoor, Pernia Qureshi and hundreds of women across the country, she is definitely doing something right.
What has your relationship with sleepwear been through your life and when did the fascination or interest begin?
My early childhood memories of bedtime are those of me pottering about the house wearing matching pyjamas (carefully picked out by my mother) refusing to go to bed. Years later, a dear friend re-introduced me to them and I instantly fell back into my childhood routine (this time round always counting down to bedtime).
What was the first garment you designed like?
The first garment I designed was a blue and pink floral polka dotted Henley Full Sleeves Pyjama Set that was part of our debut collection of Pernia’s Pop Up Shop in December 2015.
How do you balance being an entrepreneur with having a life?
I make time for the things I love and schedule them in. I focus on empowering my team by delegating certain key tasks to them and build on their strengths, after all one person cannot be present everywhere.
Where do you find inspiration?
I look at my work as a portrait of the things that interest me. Hence, I find inspiration in things I enjoy doing the most- be it the books I read, pieces of music I listen to, cities I visit, restaurants I eat at and passionate people I meet.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
Knowing that every day is a new day and one gets the opportunity to make it whatever you want of it gets going every single day.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
My grandfather once said to me if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.
Who is someone you would love to see wearing Dandelion pyjamas?
Everyone? Is that asking for too much 😉
What are your must-haves for a productive day?
Organization is key, planning for the next day the night before is a must
8 hours of sleep in my Dandelion Notched Collared Pyjama Set
Lots of hydration
An iPhone Charger and iPad
What are your essentials for a good night’s rest?
Crisp cotton pyjamas
Comfy Bed Linen – Frette or Pratesi would be my pick
A good book – I am currently reading The Association of Small Bombs
A pot of de-caffeinated chamomile tea
Jo Malone’s lavender scented candle
Switching off your phone or putting it away before going to bed
How do you unwind at the end of a long day?
A hot shower and getting into my pyjamas before sitting down to a meal with my family always does the trick for me.
If you could give advice to your 16-year-old self, what would it be?
Trust yourself, you already have all the answers and everything is rigged in your favour.
