Try Out These Apps to Get A Good Night’s Sleep
We use apps to talk to our friends, to do our groceries, to translate languages and even remind us to drink enough water! It was only a matter of time before we started discovering apps to help us sleep better. Although this goes against the idea that you should keep phones far away from you while you sleep, we’re hoping that these apps make up for all that blue light! Check out our favourite sleep apps.
Sleep time has been designed to help you wake up feeling refreshed and energized. How would one do this you ask? Well, by tracking your movements through the night (yes, your smartphone can do this!), Sleep Time gathers insights about your sleeping patterns and sets your alarm for when you’re in your lightest sleep. At night, we go through various sleep phases and by waking you up when you’re in the lightest phase, versus a regular alarm which can wake up you up from very deep sleep, you will automatically feel ready to wake up. The app also develops reports about your sleep so you can learn more about your sleep habits.
We love Calm because it’s useful for more than just sleep. Calm is a mindfulness and meditation app that can help you relax, de-stress and sleep better. The app offers various meditation sessions, some that are focused on breathing whereas others that offer guided meditations of varying lengths. The app also has Sleep Stories where authors (with really soothing voices) read out calming bedtime stories that automatically switch off when they end- how amazing is that! The stories are not only incredibly beautiful but they are read in a way that makes you feel relaxed and at ease. The app also has music and soundscapes for you to choose from.
To Bed
Some of us still require a little nudge when it comes to bedtime or else you may possibly find us three seasons deep in a Netflix show when we really need to be sleeping! To Bed is a great little app that lets you know when you need to start preparing to sleep, almost like a sleep planner. You feed in your wakeup times for the week and the app will start telling you when you need to start getting ready for bed. This is a good reminder because we often end up working long hours late into the night and actually lose track of time. With To Bed, you are always aware of how many hours you have till bedtime and can plan your day and night more efficiently.
We’re sure you’ve gotten sucked into the adult colouring book trend, because we definitely have. It’s fascinating how doing something so simple and basic can make you feel so peaceful. We love winding down after a long day with a hot cup of tea and a few sketch pens, however, for those who want something more tech-friendly, Recolor is the app for you. With over 1,000 images, you can start colouring directly onto your phone. The app is designed to help you relax so the imagery and colour palettes are presented in ways to help you relax and channel your anxiety into this activity. Next time you’re feeling stressed, try spending a few minutes colouring and we promise you that you will have forgotten about all your problems before you can say ‘colour in the lines’!
